Sabotage Editing Assignment
Camera Movement and Exciting Editing Techniques
Directions: You will be working with a group of four to five students. Quickly decide on an action-oriented storyline that you can shoot fairly fast and on the go. Next, please shoot the following groups of shots together as listed below. When you are finished, please import your shots into IMOVIE and assemble them in any order you wish (as long as the groups of shots themselves stay the same). Next, add intense or high-energy music to your clips, a title at the beginning, credits at the end, and then export. We will watch these videos in class.
Grading: To achieve an A on this assignment you must not have any jump cuts. Also, please make sure each shot has proper headroom, leading the subject, and rule of thirds etc.
Purpose: To practice effective camera steadiness and composition. Shoot the following shots in order within the group. You can, however, choose to have Group 4 come before Group 3 etc.
• Group 1: LS to MS to CU of one subject (also called the 1,2,3 formula)
• Group 2: pan right to tilt up to CU and then zoom out to MS
• Group 3: Dolly out from one subject and truck right to moving subject
• Group 4: Shoot LS of main action, then an ECU, and then a CU of a reaction shot
• Group 5: Zoom out on a moving object from CU to LS
• Group 6: Pan right with moving subject, POV of subject, place camera on ground and have subject move towards camera
• Group 7: Have two subjects in a simulated discussion. Cut back and forth between the two subjects using OTS, POV, CU, MS, LS, and CU Reaction shots
• Group 8: Combine four shots of your choice together
You CAN add more shots if you wish.

New Server and Drop Box Info
Just to be safe, make sure that you change the
permissions on your QuickTime file so that everyone can read and write before you
drop it into the server. This will ensure that I will be able to open
them. To do this, control click on your Quicktime file and select 'Get Info'. Scroll down to make sure anyone can 'read and write' this file under permissions.
Next...
Choose "Connect to Server" under the "Go" menu in the Finder.
Enter vidstore in the server address field.
Enter "scvideo" for both the name and password.
Select the "SC Video Classes" volume to mount.
The volume will mount on the desktop and you can double-click on it to
open it. Inside you will find a drop folder for your period. You
can drop your movies into this folders.

Music Video Assignment
Music Video Assignment
Music Video Project
Video Production
Mr. Mitchell
Raw Footage March 22/23
Final Project April 4/5
Requirements:
Students will shoot a music video that is no longer than five minutes.
Music videos must have a concept, theme, or story (not 100% lip-syncing).
Students may work with one other person, but everyone must edit their own version of the video.
Students must turn in a one-page typed treatment.
Most videos have an interesting concept such as a fake TV show, a backwards video, a dance video, a live performance video, or simply an interesting story. Your treatment should explain in detail your concept and how you plan to make this concept come to life. Your treatment should answer the follwing questions:
1. What is your story or concept in great detail? Don't forget costumes, editing and shooting style etc.
2. Who are you working with on this project (inside or outside of class)
3. When will you shoot?
4. Do you need class time to shoot?
5. What song are you using?
Videos must have one at least one eight-shot sequence.
Storyboards of the sequence will be required.
Videos shots must use proper technique discussed in class: good headroom, proper white-balance, leading the subject, focus, and steadiness. Grading of these shots will be more difficult than the last project.
Most shots in music videos are only 1-4 seconds long, please keep this in mind when planning your shots. Plan your shots ahead of time. A three-minute video should have at least 60 shots unless your concept requires something different.
Remember your target audience: the class and myself.
