Today in Video 1

Good morning,
I will not be in today until 11:15. I will miss third period and the first ten minutes of fourth.

Today:
Export your commercials to Quicktime, change permissions, and drop them into the Vidstore server in the proper period. Videos are due today and I am not accepting late work on this assignment.
When you have finished your commercial and dropped it, I want you to go onto YouTube and look for four music videos that you would recommend others watch. I want you to copy the links so you can paste the link and describe the videos in the comment section below (click on comments and make sure you include your name). Also, please list why you think this is a good music video for the class to watch.

Example:
Trent Mitchell
Pearl Jam

Do the Evolution
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FS69fuCOhTM
This is an animated video that seems to pay homage to Pink Floyd's The Wall. The animation is both crude and unique. This is a good video for the class to watch because even though it is animated, the video still showcases simulated camera movement, location changes, and large amount of creativity. Most importantly, the video can really encourage you to think about humans impact on the globe.

After you have posted your links and info you may watch other videos your classmates have suggested. Please post school appropriate videos only.

Your homework: Figure out what song you would like to use for your music video. Music videos should be 2:30-5:00 in length.
We will watch student and professional examples in class on Tues/Wed.

Another video to get you started http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K2cYWfq--Nw

it is a good song with a complicated video to go along with it, the beginning is boring but the mouths moving seperatly in the screen are very cool. shows that not having to move and have animations around it can make a good video

-The song is very crazy, thrash-influenced grindcore. All the camera work matches the style perfectly: constantly changing, different angles, different subjects, shaky, just insane. it takes the idea of "editing to the beat" to a dizzying new level. the story line that seems to go with it adds to the creepy, disturbing nature of the video.

System Of A Down
Toxicity
-An old favorite. The song has a heavy yet ambient feeling. The lighting that accompanies each part of the song adjusts the mood as everything changes; and the song changes a few times. the speeding up of certain shots helps create a heavier mood. same with certain camera angles on the guitarist; certain shots of stances really add to the metal atmosphere.

This video has a really fun song, as well as being technically interesting because it is entirely done with animation on a chalkboard (with some parts where they include live action mixed in). I think it would be good for the class to watch because it shows what you can do to make your video interesting or original if you don't have a bunch of people to be in your movie.

This video is live action, with a catchy song (or so I think). I think that this video would be good to watch in class because it has a fairly simple premise, but uses a lot of different shots and angles to make it interesting. The editing also really fits the beat (especially the bubble gum part) and the lighting change in the middle of the video is very cool.

This video is combines literal interpretation of the song, and the band playing the song. Also, all of the shots with the photo booth is very original and interesting.

I LOVE this video. I think all of the shots are amazing, the scenery is awesome, and I love how it doesn't just film what the lyrics are literally talking about. I love how the simplicty of this video really is so heavy. All you have in here is a giant stage, good timed lighting, and the band rocking out. from that, everything is based off of camera work- close ups of the guys' faces, shots of the instruments, and shots of the atmosphere. Simple, but very heavy.

three days grace
animal i have become.

i like this video because they show shots of the band and shows a parallel story that it cuts to.
when they are showing the band there are lots of close up shots of gutars and drums, etc. and when thay show the other story in the video that camera moves every beat of the song in some parts and gives it a good effect.

The Song is very good except the fact that the music video has nothing to do with the song it self

Here comes the son, it is the brightest star of them all.
the shots and the stoyline are interesting and it has to do with snow white and the seven dwarves

"This video takes place on the last day of school and whoever is a senior will surely be able to at least some what connect with this video because they will be leaving high school soon as well. After school gets out all the kids are getting ready for an after party that then incorporates the band into the video for a party/concert. Please watch this."

Some of the things I liked about this video were that it was very artsy and imaginative. I liked how it began with the singer in the garage sitting at the piano and as she started to play, the piano rolled out into the street, and she got up and the piano got hit by a taxi. I little strange, but I liked it.

First of all; I absolutely LOVE this song. And it's just amazing. :]

I like this music video because it's creative and artistic. I believe they might have used some stop motion in this. At least, that's what it looks like. I also like how they turn one thing into another. If you watch it, you'll know what I mean.

Fresh Prince of Bel-Air

http://youtube.com/watch?v=upvweQDrd5c

This is an American classic. A song about the hardships of being a young blackman from Philadelphia. With a very funky rythm that you can groove too, and some very cool camera shots (Will Smith spins around in a throne!), this video is a prime example of true art.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m7Y-T__h4Oc
Despite the intro being kind of long and boring, this whole video has a great concept. It's supposed to take place during the 20's when motown was starting to emerge in society. there is an obvious motown/ "oldschool" influence on the song itself, so it goes along perfectly with the video. It has good involvement of singing and footage from the twenties.

My Body is a Cage
This video is kind of odd, but overall very unique and well done. It spoofs old westerns, but not in a comedic way because the song itself is very deep and powerful. Some of the opening wide shots are very cinematic and beautiful of the desert. Slow, but meaningful.
